Brennan King
“Brennan King is a soulful landscape painter. His “Bayfront” is a rugged and fresh oil-on-canvas, Post-Impressionist interpretation of the inland waterway. Stripped of detail, the painting conveys the real energy and calming beauty of our local sunsets”
— Kevin Costello, Sarasota Herald Tribune
My recent paintings focus on a pastoral existence. Color theory is combined with simple shapes to capture something as complex as a moment of time in nature. Some shapes are geometric; others are inspired by children’s books and the simple drawings of cartoons from another era. I am fascinated by the extent to which detail can be peeled away letting imagination fill in the missing parts. In a time of visual complexity, with computers imitating the most exacting detail, I am interested in moving in the opposite direction, allowing the viewer’s imagination to wander into a more calming world — created by my paint brush.
